14 States, Thousands of Miles and countless Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches…..

Bryan Kemper with the Youth Track at NRLC

The Stand True Pro-life Missionaries have had a whirlwind summer, and it’s not over yet. They have driven thousands of miles, and some of them even flew across the country to spread the pro-life message. We have been at conferences, pro-life training camps, abortion clinic outreaches and so much more. We had a major role in exposing Planned Parenthood for selling baby parts, as we helped lead the social media blitz. After several weeks of ministry on the road, we are back in the office for two days before we hit the road again for the next 3 weeks.

Before we leave for the National Sidewalk Counseling Symposium in Chicago on Friday, we have a lot of restocking to do. The gas tank is empty, the cupboards are going bare, the printer is out of ink, and we need your help. We have $258 left in the bank and that won’t get us very far. You can help keep these amazing pro-life missionaries on road with a donation today.

Please help us fill up the gas tank, the literature tubs, and feed the missionaries on the road. Your donation today will save lives. Please donate $25, $50, $100, $500 and help Stand True continue to educate, activate and equip this generation. If you can donate please do so at https://give.cornerstone.cc/Stand+True.

Bryan Kemper Speaking at Night Vision Festival

I wish you could have seen the missionaries at work. They are an amazing and dedicated team. When I had to stay up into the morning hours to prepare for the release of the undercover Planned Parenthood videos, they were right there with me working hard. After driving long hours through the night, they still hopped right out of the van and got to work, setting up our booth or whatever else needed to be done.

Last week we organized what we call a “hash tag takeover” when Planned Parenthood had an event planned on Twitter. The event was designed to have women tell positive stories about Planned Parenthood using #PPShoutYourStory. Not only did we completely dominate the event with pro-life messages, we shut it down.

At Night Vision music festival in Colorado, a young man approached me to tell me that he was solidly pro-choice, but after he had heard my talk he changed his mind. We talked for awhile, and I gave him a copy of my book, and he bought two of our t-shirts. The next day he came back to the booth to ask me how to answer hard questions as he had already started talking to people about pro-life.

I could tell you story after story about how God is using this team by saving babies and changing hearts and minds. I can’t wait to see what God will do with them for the remainder of the summer as we hit the road again in two days. Please consider making a generous donation today and spend some time praying for our team.

Please help us fill up the gas tank, the literature tubs and feed the missionaries on the road. Your donation today will save lives. Please donate $25, $50, $100, $500 and help Stand True continue to educate, activate and equip this generation. If you can donate please do so at https://give.cornerstone.cc/Stand+True.

“I Want A Lamborghini” – Planned Parenthood Medical Director Jokes About Selling Aborted Baby Parts So She Can Buy A Lamborghini In New Undercover Video

In a new undercover video released today, Dr Mary Gatter, President of the Planned Parenthood Medical Directors’ Council, talks with investigators posing as a company that purchases baby body parts.

“Why don’t you start by telling me what you’re used to paying?”, Dr. Gatter asks, and the conversation proceeds with a back and forth about the amount of money that would be appropriate for selling the parts of aborted babies.

Dr. Gatter hesitates to be the first to give a figure, because she says she doesn’t want “to low-ball it.” The discussion concludes with her assertion, “I want a Lamborghini.”

Meanwhile, federal law states, “It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human fetal tissue for valuable consideration” (42 U.S. Code 289G-2)

Dr. Gatter also makes it clear that she is willing to see if the abortion procedure can be adjusted in order to insure that intact organs are obtained. She admits that this violates the promise Planned Parenthood makes to patients that the procedure won’t be changed in any way just because they agree to donate the body parts of their babies.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, will be publicizing the video today, made by the Center for Medical Progress, and stated, “This is the second of more videos that will be released in the coming four or five weeks, showing how morally corrupt Planned Parenthood is. Priests for Life will assist members of Congress as well as public officials on the state level in upcoming investigations into the extent to which Planned Parenthood officials, at the highest level, have broken state and federal law. Meanwhile, in the light of what they do to kill children and sell their parts, it is clearly immoral to give any support or transact any business with Planned Parenthood.”

Bryan Kemper, President of Stand True Pro-life Outreach said, “Planned Parenthood has been known by the pro-life movement as the monster they are, and now the world is starting to see the mask ripped off and their hideous nature revealed. The abortion holocaust is disgusting in so many ways and these videos expose Planned Parenthood as the modern day Dr Mengeles they are.”

Please join us in exposing Planned Parenthood and tweet out your disgust using the hashtag #PPSellsBabyParts

Planned Parenthood is Selling Baby Body Parts

Planned Parenthood wants to create a “menu” of baby body parts for buyers to more easily request exactly what they want. They’re extremely savvy when it comes harvesting the “heart, lungs, and liver!”

Planned Parenthood is starting a new wave shopping trend in which all you have to do is fill out an order form and they’ll send aborted baby body parts right to your door! Only “$30 to $100 for each specimen.” Never mind the fact that it’s a federal felony, because their senior director of medical services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, says, “laws are up for interpretation.” All in the name of online shopping for a deal, right?

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, is calling on Americans and their religious leaders to pay close attention today, and in the coming weeks, to the new evidence that Planned Parenthood is involved in the selling of the body parts of the babies killed by the abortions it provides.

“I have been involved for decades in the effort to expose the evidence that the abortion industry sells the body parts of the babies it kills,” Fr. Pavone stated, “and I welcome this new evidence provided by David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress. The undercover videos and documentation, which have begun to be publicized today, show how people at the highest levels of Planned Parenthood are negotiating the sale of body parts, and adjusting the way they perform abortions so that the body parts are more accessible. This violates both the law and the most basic sense of human decency.”

Fr. Pavone collaborates closely with Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics, who first exposed the sale of baby body parts some 15 years ago, and with Troy Newman of Operation Rescue, who has exposed many criminal activities that occur in abortion clinics.

“We have on our website, BabyBodyParts.com, the images of some of the order forms that were discovered back then — forms that ask that eyes, livers, brains, legs and other body parts be shipped on wet ice to the researchers who want them,” Fr. Pavone explained.

“This activity violates state and federal laws that prohibit the sale of human body parts. Moreover, this new evidence shows that Planned Parenthood is still using the partial-birth abortion procedure, which has also been banned by law at the state and federal level.

“We therefore call on Congress to investigate this activity and to stop federal funding of Planned Parenthood. Moreover, we call on the United States Senate to vote on and pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which will protect many of the babies whose bodies are being cut up and sold in this manner,” Fr. Pavone said.

Priests for Life has set up an action alert urging citizens to call their representatives in Congress to do something about these revelations. Keep informed of this and more at www.BabyBodyParts.com and www.CenterForMedicalProgress.org.

Another Baby Saved At Abortion Mill and a Special Note From Father Frank Pavone

A Special Note From Father Frank Pavone

Dear Friends,

One of the greatest blessings God has given to our Priests for Life ministry is our Youth Outreach program, Stand True, headed by Bryan Kemper.

Bryan and I are writing to you today to make sure you are aware of the life-saving work that Stand True is doing, particularly through our summer interns who are with us now.

We need your help to give them the training they need, not only to save lives this summer, but to attend national conferences at which they will learn pro-life skills and build relationships that will last a lifetime within the movement.

So many interns who were with us in the past, and in whom Stand True nurtured the seeds of pro-life activism, have gone on to positions of leadership and service in the pro-life movement.  Kate Bryan, for instance, now works for Professor Robby George at the American Principles Project, and Brandi Swindell has started Stanton Health Care, specializing in unexpected pregnancy care.

Priests for Life is one of the only pro-life groups which, though not a students’ organization, has a full-time youth outreach director and a full-blown youth outreach program.

And it is succeeding only because people like you are stepping up and helping through your prayers and by your kind donations. We are asking for both today. Please take a moment to read Bryan’s message, and please be generous!

Sincerely,

Fr. Frank Pavone

National Director

A Mom Came Out of the Abortion Mill Yesterday; She Cancelled Her Abortion and Chose Life For Her Baby.

Praise God as we got to see a mom come out of the abortion mill yesterday morning and decide to cancel her abortion and choose life for her baby. What an amazing start to the summer for Stand True and our courageous pro-life missionaries.

Will you help us keep our amazing pro-life missionaries on the road this summer?  Please donate $25, $50, $100, $500 and help Stand True continue to educate, activate and equip this generation. If you can donate please do so at https://give.cornerstone.cc/Stand+True.

This week the Stand True Summer Mission Team began taking their training on the road as some of the team headed to California to join the Survivors Pro-life Boot Camp and the rest are ministering at the abortion mill in Dayton, Ohio.

While most of the team is in Ohio this week, Kimberlee and myself flew to California to help train over 60 young pro-life warriors and lead them in activism on the streets.  I led them in social media training, teaching them how to use social media to spread the pro-life message around the world.

On the streets in front of the abortion mill, I was live streaming one of the young girls from Survivors as she pleaded with moms who were sitting in the lobby waiting to have their babies killed. It was the beautiful words and spirit of this young woman that prompted one mom to come down and talk to us. Now her baby will live.

See a video of this young pro-life woman pleading with moms here – https://youtu.be/Rr62XDmvjt0

We are only three weeks into the summer and we have seen two babies who have been saved by our work, and we still have two months to go. I am confident that we will see many more examples of the fruits of our labor, and continue to plants seed along the way this summer.

We need your support to continue this urgent work. In two weeks, we load the van and start driving thousands of miles as we take the pro-life message across America. We will be heading down to New Orleans, North Carolina, New York, New Hampshire, Michigan and much more.

Donations can also be mailed to Stand True – PO Box 890 – Troy, OH 45373 or call 937-570-0671 to donate by phone.

Meet A Baby Saved By The Work Of Stand True Missionaries

Just days into the summer internship, our Stand True Pro-life Missionaries got to meet a baby that was saved because of the work of past teams.

We had just started our sidewalk chalking outreach at the Strawberry Festival in Troy, Ohio when I saw a family walking toward us. They waved to me and told me that they saw me on the news earlier this week. I had been on the news for fighting against the City of Troy, who is trying to silence our pro-life presence. The family then told me to keep up the great work and pointed to their kids and said, “They are alive today because of you”.

The father used to live next to my family and would see all the pro-life work we did around town. He would see the Stand True missionaries at our house and all over town. He often asked questions about the work we did and about the graphics on our van.

One day, he came to me in a panic because his grilfriend was planning on getting an abortion, and he did not know what to do or say to her. I was able to talk to both of them and give them pro-life literature. We all prayed hard for this couple and their baby. Three babies later, this couple was standing with our missionaries, thanking us for their family and telling us to never stop what we are doing.

What an amazing first outreach for these dedicated pro-life warrriors who have given up their whole summer to stand up and be a voice for the babies! We need to make sure that we can keep this pro-life missionary team on the road all summer; they are changing the culture and saving lives.

This summer, the team will travel thousands of miles as they take the pro-life message and our activism to New Orleans, Colordado, California, Illinois, North Carolina, New York, New Hampshire, Pennsyvania and beyond. We need your support to continue to feed, house and transport these missionaries all summer.

We need your help TODAY! Please support the work of Stand True and our amazing pro-life missionaries. Please donate $25, $50, $100, or $500 and help Stand True continue to educate, activate and equip this generation to abolish abortion. If you can donate, please do so at https://give.cornerstone.cc/Stand+True.

Why I hate exceptions in pro-life laws but understand why I must support bills like the Pain-Capable Act.

This has got to be one of the most divisive aspects in the pro-life movement, to the point of causing serious infighting amongst friends. I have been called evil, faithless, a compromiser, and even the enemy of God. All of this because I am willing to support legislation that I believe is a positive step toward my end goal: the total abolition of all abortion.

First, I want to address the fact that every single bill I have ever seen introduced nationally or on a state level has or is an exception. The mere fact that the Pain Capable Act only bans abortions after 20-weeks makes that bill an exception in and of itself.

One of the biggest fights right now is between people who refuse to support the HR36 (Pain Capable Act) because it has the rape exception. I agree that it should not have a rape exception. On that same line, it should not have a 20-week exception either; it should just ban all abortions across the board.

I have been in the battle to end abortion since the late 80s, and I hate the fact that I am still fighting. I want nothing more in this world then to see an end of child killing in my lifetime. I will continue to fight until my dying breath if that is what it takes.

Most of us in the fight full-time understand this frustration. We often plead with churches and fellow Christians to rise up with us and demand an end to abortion. In the same way that I can’t understand how Christians were silent during the Nazi Holocaust, and how Christians took part in the slave trade, I cannot understand why Christians remain apathetic to abortion.

I know that if every single person who called themselves a believer in Christ would stand up and walk to the local abortion mill in their town, they could shut them down. I know if we all stood in unity and demanded the reversal of Roe v. Wade, we could see that happen. I know that through Christ, we can accomplish this.

I also know that I will not simply wait for that to happen; I must act daily to do everything that I can to save as many babies as I can until God’s people wake up. With every day that goes by, we lose another 3,500 innocent babies to this evil holocaust that has gripped our nation for over 40 years.

I have heard people say that every time a law is passed with an exception, that we are throwing those babies ‘under the bus’. However, we can’t throw a baby under the bus that is already under the bus. Abortion is legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy, and so those babies are already sentenced to die. What we can do is pull as many babies out from under the bus as we can, until the bus is no longer there.

I hate exceptions. I hate ALL exceptions. I hate that we even have to talk about saving as many babies as we can, but they will die if we don’t. We make choices every day in our pro-life activism that will leave some babies out. We choose which days we will go to the abortion mill to pray and plead with moms and which days we sit in the office and get other work done. We choose which abortion mill we will go to and which one we will not.

I know that I can only take steps towards the goal: the total abolition of abortion. I know that not every step I take will be the most popular with those who also fight this fight. I know that sometimes my steps in one direction will mean that I am not saving every baby in another direction, but I must always be taking steps.

I also know that as St. Paul said in his letter to the Philippians, “ I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”(Phil 4:13) I know that when we, as the body of Christ, come together and realize this truth, we will bring an end to abortion and so much more.  I will never stop calling on Christians to take up the call to embrace this and to “Love your neighbor as yourself”. (Mark 12:31) I will never waiver on the command to “rescue those being led away to slaughter, stop those staggering towards death.” (Proverbs 24:11)

This week, we do not have a comprehensive bill that will wipe out the evil of abortion before Congress. We don’t even have a bill that would wipe out the majority of abortions. In fact, this is a small step that will save a small number of babies’ lives. But it will, in fact, save babies’ lives. It will also cause many to pause, as they realize the truth that babies in the womb feel pain, because they are just that: babies.

Yesterday, I was walking to lunch in my small town of Troy, OH and I noticed that the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, who represents my district, was eating lunch at a local café. I got the chance to thank him for getting this bill to the floor for a vote this week. I also encouraged him to stand boldly for life, and explained how important it is that we bring an end to abortion.  While I thanked him now, I will not stop holding the flames to the feet of our leaders to make sure that we don’t stop there, or anywhere, until every single baby is protected.

We have a major CRISIS right now.

I will keep this short and to the point: WE NEED YOUR HELP!

I was about to sit down and write a letter explaining how critical our financial situation is right now when I got a phone call from the City of Troy. They were calling to warn me that a major leak had sprung under our missionary house, and water was coming out of the side. Our plumber crawled under the house and found a major pipe burst and had to shut down our water. Tomorrow he will have to completely tear up the bathroom floor to get to the pipes and make the repairs.

On top of the repairs to the pipe and the new flooring we will have to buy for the bathroom, we have much more to do to get ready for our missionaries’ arrival. We have three full time missionaries right now and several more arriving in just a few weeks and we have less than $300 in our account.

We need your help TODAY! Please support the work of Stand True and our amazing Pro-life Missionaries. Please donate $25, $50, $100, $500 and help Stand True continue to educate, activate and equip this generation. If you can donate please do so at https://give.cornerstone.cc/Stand+True.

Abortion Enslaves Women and Denies Them True Equal Rights.

I recently released a small statement about how abortion is oppressive to women; a couple of people asked me how I can find abortion to be oppressive if it is their free choice, so I decided to expand on my thought.

Here is the original quote that spawned the questions I received: “The abolition of abortion is the only true path to equal rights for all women. Abortion is a violent, destructive cycle of oppression against mothers. How can we truly call women “free” when this evil is welcomed into our society?”

Abortion is oppressive because it is a mechanism that allows men to be free of responsibility; they now have an easy out when a woman becomes pregnant. The problem is that it is only easy for the man; he simply must come up with the money and his part is over.  The woman however is the one who must walk into that clinic and undergo a violent and invasive procedure as her pre-born child is dismembered and torn from her body.

It is a so-called “choice” that lies to women and tells them their own child is nothing more than an inconvenience and a parasite. Pregnancy is not a sickness or condition that needs to be fixed, it is the state of being with child.  When a woman is pregnant she is not pregnant with a “potential human being”, she is pregnant with an actual human being in the earliest stages of that human’s development cycle.

par·a·site  noun

an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment.

In the very definition of a parasite you see it is an organism of another species. A child in the womb is the offspring of the mother carrying that child; another word for offspring is fetus, which is more commonly used to refer to the child. The mother’s body is not merely a host but actually is designed to nurture and protect that child until birth; any attack on that child is an unnatural and violent act.

Abortion is a lie that tells women to sacrifice their own child and then robs them of one of the most of one of the most amazing parts of being a woman, motherhood. The bond between mother and child is such a special connection; abortion destroys that bond and denies the mother and child of their relationship.

“Sweeter even than to have had the joy of caring for children of my own has it been to me to help bring about a better state of things for mothers generally, so their unborn little ones could not be willed away from them.”

– Susan B. Anthony, Founding Feminist 1889

Abortion enslaves women to a world where men can dominate and control them so the man can be free. It is sad that men have been able to turn the argument around and make women think it is about their freedom when it is about men not having to be men and raise and support their child. Men scare women into thinking abortion is their only option and as a man I am disgusted by the oppression other men have put on them by pushing women to kill their own children.

I have sat outside abortion facilities for over 20 years watching men as they push women in the doors, ignoring the tears and obvious distress. Others will drop them off in front of the clinic and proceed then park on the street eating fast food, smoking and talking on the phone while the woman is alone inside the abortion clinic. I have watched fathers take their own daughters and granddaughters into the abortion clinic because they are more concerned about perceived shame than the life of their own grandchild.

I know not all women who go into abortion clinics are there because a man is pressuring them. Many of them are there because a man did not step up in any way.  Many of them are there because a men and society have told women that having a baby outside of wedlock will hold them back in life. Many are there because our churches have failed to provide a safe, loving environment for women who are pregnant and need help and support.

Whatever the reason is, the fact remains that abortion is an unnatural response to one of nature’s most precious gifts to women. Abortion is does not affirm women, it reduces their pregnancy to a disease that needs a cure. Abortion does not free women; it holds them in bondage to a society that teaches women that killing their child is a form of love and mercy.

I would say that the true freedom of a woman is the freedom to be a mother without shame, without scrutiny and without men pressuring them to “fix it” or “get it taken care of”. The beauty of motherhood and childbirth should be celebrated and looked at as one of the greatest achievements of womanhood. The last time I checked, there is not a man on earth who can even come close to this achievement.

So I will repeat my statement and stand by it:”The abolition of abortion is the only true path to equal rights for all women. Abortion is a violent, destructive cycle of oppression against mothers. How can we truly call women “free” when this evil is welcomed into our society?”

If you have been hurt by abortion and would like someone to talk to, please contact Rachel’s Vineyard at: www.rachelsvineyard.org or www.silentnomoreawareness.org

Note: I am not saying that all men are like this and I know that many men fight for the rights of their children to live; I am merely commenting on lies of modern day feminism that tell women they need abortion to be truly free.

For Christ I stand,

Bryan Kemper

The Story Of How God Inspired The Launch Of 40 Days For Life, Bound4Life and Stand True’s, Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity Simultaneously.

Without Planning It, Grassroots Pro-Life Prayer Groups Launched at Same Time – Say Leaders in First Joint Interview

Ten years ago, a burning desire to be a voice for the unborn was ignited in three leaders – in Texas, Virginia and Colorado. Having known each other for years, they rarely see one another aside from national pro-life gatherings. What would happen if we started a dialogue together?

For the first time, David Bereit of 40 Days for Life, Matt Lockett of Bound4LIFE and Bryan Kemper of Stand True share their common yet distinct experiences – and reveal a striking timeline of how public prayer advocacy has thrived in the grassroots pro-life movement.

A Son’s Prayer in the Hospital

Summer of 2004 found David Bereit (pronounced BE-right) frustrated in College Station, Texas. A local Planned Parenthood abortion center had just reached a death toll of 2,000.

“We had been trying everything we knew how to do,” Bereit says. “While we saw some small pro-life successes, for the most part the abortion numbers just kept going up.” He and a few other people did the only thing they felt was left – gather around a table and pray for an hour.

Bereit shares, “The night before that prayer time, a friend from church pulled me aside and said: ‘If we really believe these children dying are made in God’s image, why aren’t we acting like it?’ he implored. ‘If we’re serious, why wouldn’t we go to that place [abortion centers], stand in the gap and intercede on behalf of these mothers and children?’”

“That conversation was germinating in me the next day during that hour of prayer,” says Bereit, noting how God placed the 40-days timeframe on their hearts that day along with other particulars. “The first local 40 Days for Life campaign was from September 1 thru October 10, 2004.”

“Many 40 Days leaders haven’t even heard this second part,” says Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life. “Years later, after the first national campaign, the same friend called me – amazed at how God used this idea.”

“Then he said, ‘Shortly before that dinner at your house, we found out my dad was dying of cancer. I went to the hospital and my dad wanted to pray about the ending of abortion. The reason why? Years before, he had gotten a girl pregnant out of wedlock, he had been scared, he pressured her to schedule an abortion… but she stood him up on the day of the appointment. He got so angry at her then. Yet eventually they ended up getting married.’“

“Laying on that hospital bed, his dad told him, ‘Son, that woman was your mother and that child I wanted to throw away to cover up my sin was you.’ The man who suggested the idea of what became 40 Days for Life was himself an abortion survivor,” Bereit concludes.

With 252 cities involved this past spring, 40 Days for Life recently celebrated 10,000 babies saved through on-site prayer at abortion centers. David Bereit and his wife now reside in northern Virginia, where he provides leadership to this growing movement.

For Ad Agency Graphic Artist, One Dream Changes His Life

“There’s something very interesting about Fall 2004,” Matt Lockett of Bound4LIFE observes before sharing his story. Living in Denver at the time, he worked as creative director at an ad agency while serving as a youth pastor.

“I had been a Christian for most of my life – but, I’m ashamed to say, I didn’t care much about abortion,” Lockett begins. “In my mind, it was a side issue that some crazy people like to make a big stink about. Then in September 2004, I had a dream.”

“I saw young people praying day and night for the ending of abortion. And in my dream, there was a man named Lou Engle. I didn’t know of anyone named Lou Engle at that point, yet it was one of those weird experiences that I couldn’t get away from,” says Lockett.

“When I found out that Lou Engle really exists, I tracked down a phone number. When I call and share my dream, one of his team tells me, ‘You’ve just dreamt what the Lord has sent us to do. We are going to Washington, DC to pray for the ending of abortion. You should come and check it out, maybe God will have something for you there.’”

Lockett had this conversation with Engle’s team in mid-September 2004, as they were traveling from Colorado Springs to Washington in prayer for the elections. Then another critical dream occurred.

“One young man was on an extended fast, and he had a dream,” shares Lockett. “He saw the streets of DC filled with young people who had tape over their mouths. In the dream, he zooms down from above and he’s in front of the Supreme Court. He sees the word LIFE is written on the tape over their mouths.” The team ended up doing the dream in front of the Supreme Court, the first “silent siege” followed by thousands more since that day.

Lockett took Engle up on the invitation to Washington, DC a few months later. “God radically changed my life and my viewpoint,” he shares. “He called my wife, four children and me to be missionaries to the nation’s capital. I ended up quitting my job in Denver; we sold our belongings in a garage sale and moved to DC. That was 10 years ago.”

Months into this new missionary experience, Lockett emerged as the director of Bound4LIFE and Justice House of Prayer DC – located a few blocks from the Supreme Court and the Capitol. Lockett states, “Our assignment progressed from praying for the 2004 elections, to believing for a shifting of the Supreme Court – to an ongoing assignment to pray for the courts and America, from the nation’s capital.”

Musician Brings Punk Rock Roots to Activist Calling

Bryan Kemper, a tattooed and energetic leader, joins our dialogue via Skype from his home base in Dayton, Ohio. Following his early years in the Christian rock scene, Kemper was floored by one person’s question: If you believe abortion is murder, why are you not doing something about it?

“From one desperate prayer, when I was facing a job transition, Stand True started in Virginia. Our mission is to educate, activate and equip young people to be a voice – because we believe this is the generation that will abolish abortion,” he asserts.

“Adults come up to me sometimes and ask, ‘Do you think we can ever end abortion?’ I always say: ‘How big is your God? Because my God is bigger than Roe v. Wade.’”

Kemper reveals how one well-known Stand True outreach began. “I remember I was driving back from speaking at McNeese State University in Louisiana with a student, and he asked, ‘What can we do with other students around the country to take a stand?’ Right then, I had the vision of the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity.”

What if students went silent, in solidarity with the children being silenced by abortion? he thought. High school and college students across the nation could stay in silent prayer all day.

“A few weeks later, I was speaking in Washington, DC at an event,” he continues. “Five minutes into my talk, a group of about 20 young people walked into the back of the room and just stood there. I thought they were there to protest me, because they were all wearing this red duct tape on their mouths.”

What is this? But it wasn’t a protest, it was the Bound4LIFE group who had heard about the talk. One of them told me what the red duct tape was afterward. This is the coolest thing ever, I thought,” Kemper recalls.

“The next day I went down to the Supreme Court, and Lou Engle was there. I asked him, ‘Hey, we’re doing this Silent Day event, can we promote the Life Tape?’ He was like, ‘Oh yeah, totally.’ So I always tell people who ask, ‘Stand True didn’t start the Life Tape idea, we just borrowed it.’ We helped make Life Tape popular, because Silent Day went big when it launched.”

“That first year we thought, Maybe 100 campuses will do this? Six hundred campuses signed up in 2004. It was amazing! Now every year in October, several thousand campuses participate – this fall will be the 11th year. It’s young people deciding to be silent in solidarity and spend the day in prayer.”

Kemper recounts one story of Silent Day’s impact. “One young woman, getting ready for school, walked downstairs wearing Life Tape. Her mother asked, ‘What are you doing? Why do you have tape on your mouth?’ She took the tape off and explained to her mom what she had decided to do that day.”

“Her mom broke down and said, ‘I’m scheduled for an abortion this week. I’m pregnant, Honey.’ That young woman was able to save her sibling’s life.”

Kemper summarizes what drives Stand True: “Things like that have happened so often. The years I’ve done this is worth it for even one of those stories. And I know you, Matt and David, have those stories too.”

Right Mission, Right Place, Right Time

“The timing is so wild,” notices Kemper. ”I never realized how close it was to the start of Bound4LIFE that those kids wearing Life Tape came to the Stand True pro-life rally. It must’ve been within the first few days.”

David Bereit jumps in: “And our first fall campaign was going on right then. We were intentionally doing it in a season leading up to an election. When is there a more important time to be praying and fasting?”

“There in College Station, Texas, I was getting news updates about both of your group’s activities during those 40 days,” Bereit recalls. “I was hearing about Bound4LIFE, about the first Pro-Life Silent Day of Solidarity, and I was massively encouraged. It showed me, Wow, God is moving on this. I was sharing the news with other people, though I didn’t realize it was the beginning for both of you.”

With each focused on prayer and advocacy for the ending of abortion, the three groups reach a diverse spectrum of people: from youth on the fringes, to a broad scope of evangelical and Catholic believers who recognize how upholding the value of life is fundamental to their faith.

“There was something in the air at that moment,” muses Matt Lockett. “It’s a profound thing, and it’s beyond just the three groups here. All of this pro-life prayer outreach started gelling together during Fall 2004. So many things happened, shifted or took a turn – and here we are a decade later.”

“It’s all coming full-circle now,” Bereit notes.

Kemper sums up the feeling in the room: “I don’t believe there are any coincidences.”
