So I just read a commentary by Ann Coulter where she claims, "The ‘changing hearts' portion of the abortion debate is over." I guess Ann has not stepped outside her house lately and seen this world. Or maybe it is because she, like so many others, thinks pro-life is just an issue.
Pro-life is so much more that just an issue, and it is about even more than just abortion and overturning Roe vs. Wade, as Ann seems to think the issue is in her commentary . Pro-life is about turning hearts not just against abortion, but also to Christ. God is the creator of every single human person, and that is why we are pro-life. These children are human persons because of God, not just because of science. Being pro-life is about respecting the life God created.
When I stand in front of the abortion mill praying or trying to offer these women hope and an alternative and I see the anger, the pain and the desperation in their faces, I cannot believe the changing hearts portion is anywhere close to over. I talked to a young woman last week in front of an abortion clinic in PA, and she told me how she could not get the stench of the abortion mill out of her mind. She told me about the nightmares she had had for the last three weeks since her abortion and how she has nightmares every night. She had nightmares in which her hands were drenched in blood. She can't forgive herself and is afraid to go to her father because he is a minister. Even with all of this grief and pain, she is somewhat OK with her decision because she wants to have sex. No way are we done turning hearts.
When we talk to these young women, it is not just to change their minds about abortion; we are concerned with their hearts and souls. So they change their minds and go away; what happens a year later when they are in the same situation? If we treat this like it is just an issue or just about a medical procedure, we have lost sight of the true battle at hand. This nation needs Christ in a desperate way; we can never relax or let up one second in our effort to turn hearts to Christ.
You can take all the polls you want, but that won't change the fact that our nation needs to turn its heart to Christ. I would love for Roe vs. Wade to be overturned today, but that is simply not going to happen right now. This nation has thrown God, morality, and truth out the window. Our great Christian leaders have come to trust in politicians as our savior instead of Christ. We have turned Christianity into a political party and forgotten who is ruling on the throne.
We need leaders who will not compromise the truth for political gain and diplomacy.
We as Christians need to start loving our God with all of our hearts, minds, souls, and strength and loving our neighbors as ourselves. When we do this, we will see hearts changed. When we do this, we will see laws changed and we will see an end to abortion. Look around this world and ask yourself, are we done turning hearts? For Christ I stand,
