This is the generation that will abolish abortion

Pictures and Story of Priests, Pastors and Pro-lifers being arrested for praying in front of White House over Obama Contraception Mandate

Today Rev Pat Mahoney, Priests for Life Priests and pro-lifers gathered to be a voice in front of the White House to oppose the Obama contraception mandate. I will have more on this story later, but here are some of the first pics of the arrests. –

Priests for Life reports:

Father Denis Wilde, OSA, associate director of Priests for Life, was among six people arrested today during a peaceful protest outside the White House.

Father Wilde was representing Priests for Life at an organized protest of the HHS  contraception mandate that violates the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion. Priests for Life yesterday filed a lawsuit against the Obama Administration that seeks to permanently block the implementation of the mandate because it imposes clear violations of conscience upon any American citizens who morally object to abortion and contraception.

Father Wilde and the other protesters, including the Rev. Pat Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition, were cited for “Failure to obey a lawful order” as they knelt in prayer in front of the White House. They each paid a $100 fine and were released from custody.

“Occupy Wall Street protesters have been occupying federal property for months, but when we kneel in prayer, the police are called in and we are arrested,” Father Wilde said. “We knew that was the risk when we gathered today, and we will do it again regardless of the risk. What people of faith – of every faith – need to do now is stand with us.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said the New York-based organization remains committed to battling the HHS mandate because it forces Americans to become morally entangled in practices they find objectionable.

“As an organization of Catholic clergy, as a corporation that employs 60 people of various religious backgrounds, and as a ministry whose very purpose is to protect and promote the pro-life teaching about the specific practices at issue in the HHS mandate, we are particularly well-positioned to fight against this intrusion of conscience,” Father Pavone said. reports:

Pro-life groups including the Christian Defense Coalition, Operation Rescue, Rock for Life, Students for Life of America, and Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust were all slated to join the prayer vigil.

“The faith community can never be silent or indifferent when it comes to matters of justice, human rights and religious liberty. We want to make it clear to President Obama that Christians would rather spend time in a jail cell than be coerced into complying with an mandate that violates our religious beliefs!” said Operation Rescue in a statement Tuesday.

Obama’s mandate that all employers cover all birth control, including abortifacients like ella, and sterilizations, has united Christians from numerous denominations in an unprecedented show of opposition. Despite an “accommodation” from the Obama administration last Friday ostensibly designed to appease religious-based opposition, the protests have only increased in vehemence, with the United States Conference of Catholic bishops denouncing the “accommodation” as insufficient.

Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church has said that he would “go to jail rather than cave in to a government mandate that violates what God commands us to do.” Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), has also said Christians would go to jail if the mandate was not changed. Reports:

Mahoney said the arrests were “in response to President Obama mandating religious institutions coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception in their health plans.”

He said the mandate “continues to involve needless government intrusion in the internal governances of religious institutions, and to threaten government coercion of religious people and groups to violate their most deeply held convictions. In a nation dedicated to religious liberty as its first and founding principle, we should not be limited to negotiating within these parameters. The only complete solution to this religious liberty problem is for HHS to the rescind the mandate of these objectionable services.”

“It is also important to send a clear message to the Obama Administration that the faith community will spend time in jail rather than be coerced into complying with an immoral and unjust mandate,” he added.

Phase 2 Protests will be March 23rd Nationwide – is how you can get involved in this fight –

Thank you Live Action for the photos.

In case you are not familiar with the latest on this situation – Update: President Obama’s FALSE accommodation on the birth control mandate – it is actually worse.

It is, indeed, sad when people can be arrested for the “horrendous” crime of praying on the street, in front of the White House.

I know that there will be some who claim that they deserve to be arrested, for whatever reason. However, it SHOULD NOT be a crime, or even something that needs a permit from the government, to simply pray.

For those who will say something about praying in public, and that they could just as well pray in their closets: These people DO pray in their closets at home. There is still no excuse for arresting someone for this simple act.

It’s an ABORTION mandate, not (merely) a contraception mandate.

How come they can arrest people who are praying but the occupy people who are committing crimes, taking over houses, sidewalks and business access for weeks on end don’t get arrested? Go figure!

They are infringing on their right of assembly and protest..they had a is just bothering Obama that they are there…It isn’t helping his image at all that he called the police and did this!

Prayers for all the brave people who went there to pray and protest!

I propose that we take it upon ourselves to rename Lafayette Park in front of the White House Tiananmen Square in honor of those who died for freedom there and to dramatize our fight for religious freedom. The name can become a rallying cry for those willing to demonstrate there.

We should pray our Rosaries for Obama and his administration’s conversion of heart, mind, and soul. And pray for God’s Mercy on our nation’s people.

Maybe we should coordinate a Rosary procession around the White House? Or Eucharistic procession?

This is a very sad day for our nation. This goes against everything your average american believes, freedom of speech, right to assemble etc. Those peole were doing NOTHING wrong, at all, and yet they were arrested. These are people who simply don’t don’t believe in the things the current admin is pushing on the people. They gathered and prayed peacefully. What does the admin do? ARREST them. Have mercy on them/us Oh Lord. Have Mercy

How long were the anti-business “occupiers” in town? It took weeks of reports on hygiene issues, public health concerns, rats, and an occupier allegedly throwing a stone or rock at a law enforcement officer before things got serious. BUT A GROUP OF CHRISTIAN MINISTERS, PRIESTS AND LAYPEOPLE COME TO PRAY AND WITNESS OUTSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE AGAINST AN ANTI-LIFE, ANTI-FERTILITY POLICY OF THIS ADMINISTRATION AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THEY ARE ARRESTED. I live in this city. This is totally nuts! (and more than a little frightening).

Why does the government abide by religious freedom for groups who refuse medical care for their children. They die while helpless doctors and nurses look on. But it it ignores Catholic religious freedom to save life. Why?

Obama is being arrogant and an oppressor to our free right to peaceful assembly and prayer, if he doesn’t lose some popularity votes on this? than we can affirm that there is seriously something awry in society as a whole. He is being a dictator and if you speak your say peaceably against the dictator he will throw you in jail, This is so wrong.

It’s not just Catholic Lisa, I am a Christian and it violates my freedom to educate the wrongfulness of abortion and it’s results, and to support the unalienable God given right to life for all. but Obama is a VERY adament pro-abortion advocate, he has been since his politician days in Chicago, his agenda is a very questionable one indeed,

These precious Brothers and Sisters of ours getting arrested just reinforces the voracity of our cause. ALL who live Godly in Christ Jesus SHALL suffer persecution.” 2 Timothy 3:12 According to the Apostle Paul our brethren getting arrested should have the affect of making US more bold and fearless. God delights in turning what the devil and his cronies devise to hinder become the very means for furthering God’s purpose! “But I want you to know brethren, that the things that happened to me have actually turned out to the furtherance of the gospel, so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest that my chains are in Christ; and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.” Philippians 1:12-14

Last time I checked, the idea behind founding America was to have a place *without* religious persecution. LORD, uphold Your servants and have mercy and heal our land!

      Hi Alyssa,
As long as this age continues there will be persecution of those who oppose evil and speak God’s truth. According to Jesus we are to be wary when people DONT oppose us. “Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” Luke 6:26
Persecution not only purifies Christ’s Church but multiplies it. The serpent was appointed to “Eat dust” What is our flesh made of? The same 27 elements that dust is made of.
The more the children of Israel were oppressed the more they multiplied. The early Christians were soaked in oil and lit up Rome. It backfired on the devil and his minions though and seemed to serve as a Divine parable as God transformed the Roman Empire through the early Christian witness.
Tertullian referred to the Church of his day as being like a mowed field. The more it is cut the more it grows. He coined the term “The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.”
In God’s economy if ten Christians were beheaded for their faith you woudnt have ten fewer Christians, you would have ten grains of wheat who have fallen into the ground and died who God will multiply and “bring forth much grain”
Prepare your heart because it is coming.

Too all of U complaining about the OWS protesters:
    1. Plenty of OWS protesters have been arrested!
    2. The OWS protesters have been beaten, shot with rubber bullets, teargased, and peppersprayed, I didn’t see any of that in this article.

I don’t agree with what happened here, but let’s keep it real.
