I’m having a problem with the HHS mandate stuff and also arguing against Planned Parenthood and it all boils down to ONE point. I usually say: “The government should not be funding organizations that are controversial and that lobby, congress and have a philosophical axe to grind.” Sometimes the reply goes like this: “The government provides funding to faith based organizations also, I guess you agree that funding should be removed from those, or at least that I should be able to withhold my tax dollars from such organizations? My only answer can be: “I think the government should not give money to faith based organizations that refuse secular services, and/or employment to people of other faiths.” Doesn’t the Salvation Army get government funding? They’ve objected to hiring gays to higher levels of the organization. So what can a pro-life person say to that? The only response I think would be “the government should not give any money to organizations that are objected to by large groups of people.” In which case a lot of faith-based organizations would lose funding. You should post on this issue, because I’ve heard the argument alot. How much does the government (does the government?) give these types of organizations?
