BREAKING: Senate rejects bill defunding Planned Parenthood – The Fight is ON! is reporting:

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 9, 2011 ( – In a 44-56 vote, the U.S. Senate has voted against a budget bill crafted by House Republicans that would have eliminated federal funding of Planned Parenthood.

The Democrat-led Senate also failed to pass its own budget bill, which contained much fewer spending cuts and maintained the abortion giant’s funding.

The vote marks the first stage of what promises to be a drawn-out battle between two opposite visions for the 2011 fiscal year, as well as between pro-life and pro-abortion forces fiercely gunning for or against the amendment de-funding Planned Parenthood.

President Obama has promised to veto the House version as it stands.

All of the Democrats voted against the pro-life version of the budget bill, but strongly conservative Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah, Jim DeMint of South Carolina, and Rand Paul of Kentucky joining them. Because major national pro-life groups like National Right to Life, the Family Research Council and others are scoring the vote — letting their members know that a vote against the cloture motion is a pro-abortion vote because it kills the bill and the pro-life riders — the three will be seen as going against the wishes of the pro-life community and their votes may hurt their standing in their home states with pro-life voters.
