The Fall of Goliath

 The Fall of Goliath

Many years ago, I designed a t-shirt that read “I survived Roe vs Wade, Roe vs Wade will not survive me.” I was told countless times by people on both sides of the abortion issue that this shirt would never become a reality. Many even told me to not distribute the shirt as it was a false hope and I was being unrealistic. I ignored them.

A few years later at the National Right to Life Convention, I was able to present this shirt as a gift to Norma McCorvey, the Jane Roe of Roe vs Wade. I had become Norma’s friend years before and was so excited to give her this shirt as I know how much her heart desired to see this ruling overturned.

On June 24th of this year, I was again at the National Right to Life Convention, this time in Atlanta, Georgia. I was sitting next to my fellow pro-life warrior and colleague Father Frank Pavone as we were live broadcasting with Priests for Life Executive Director Janet Morana.
We knew the Supreme Court was handing down decisions but were not convinced the Dobbs vs Jackson decision would come that day. As Father Frank was talking to Janet, I refreshed the web browser on my phone set to the SCOTUS website and there it was: Dobbs was handed down. I proclaimed, “We have Dobbs, we have Dobbs,” and handed my phone to Father Frank as he began to read the decision to confirm Roe had been overturned.

I can tell you that my eyes filled with tears of joy as I looked up and cried out “Praise you Jesus”. It was a surreal feeling as we sat there listening to Father Frank read the decision. I remember seeing the raw emotion on Janet’s face and hearing the whole convention cheering as we realized one of the goals of our life’s work. The proclamation on my t-shirt had come true.

My phone began to go crazy with calls and texts from so many friends with whom I have fought side by side with in this battle. We were talking about how we will remember for the rest of our lives where we were when we heard the news. I instantly thought of the chorus of a Project 86 song, “Fall Goliath Fall” as that is what just happened: Goliath had fallen.

So here we are two weeks later and the celebration has not ended, but more importantly, the work has not ended either. The pro-abortion forces have been in a frenzied rage because they know this is the beginning of the end of the abortion holocaust. They have been louder than ever as they resemble Chicken Little running around screaming “the sky is falling; the sky is falling.”

Friends, we do celebrate this victory and hope you are as overjoyed as we are. However, we must not reach down and tighten our belts as the ride will get harder as we press on towards the goal of the total abolition of abortion. We must raise our voices higher than the pro-aborts to drown out the lies they are trying to scare the world with. We must continue to support and build up the amazing pregnancy resource centers around the country that are providing the help women need. We must work harder, smarter and more diligently until abortion is not just illegal but unthinkable.

A Note from Father Frank

Dear Friends,

Roe v. Wade has been overturned!!

This is a cause for great joy and celebration, and we should pause and celebrate. What this means is that now we can protect the unborn! Many people can say that this is the first time in their entire lives that they have lived in a nation where human beings can be protected at all stages of their development.

Put another way, the court is leaving it to the people and their elected lawmakers to decide whether and to what extent they will protect the unborn.

Of course, we will keep working until they are all protected. But until now, the courts have said it was a constitutional right to kill them. That egregious and damaging error had to be corrected first, and now it has been corrected.

This shows that God is faithful to his promises. Pro-life people, many of whom have passed on to the next life, worked and prayed, marched, voted and sacrificed that this day would come. God has answered all those prayers!

Let’s rejoice in this moment, let’s learn what the Dobbs Supreme Court decision said in more detail (see www.SupremeCourtVictory.com), and let’s recommit ourselves to ending abortion!

Sincerely,

Fr. Frank Pavone
